Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Not only is the sabbath day a day of rest, but it is also a holy day. We don’t need to be legalistic about it, but we sometimes underestimate the value of the sabbath. In modern christianity, we celebrate the sabbath as a Sunday (not so in the Jewish faith) but when I say we celebrate it, I mean we go to church.
When I was younger, some people in the church I was in would keep the sabbath. But they did it as a punishment – they walked around with long faces – it was no celebration. How could that bring glory to God. I looked at that and wondered why would anyone be drawn to christianity if they had that to look forward to.
So next time you have a Sunday, remember it is a holy day. Dedicate some time to God, to celebrate the rest he has brought us into in Chriost Jesus.
